1. Take it Easy

Avoid straining yourself in any way for the first few weeks of your recovery. Though you should get up and move about every hour to keep your blood flowing well and decrease blood clots, refrain from any activity that may increase your heart rate or blood pressure. Exercises, stretching, or lifting heavy items could increase pressure on your incision, making it slower to heal. For the first few weeks, just kick back and relax.

2. Hydrate

A hydrated body is a healthy body. Did you know that water is the main way that oxygen and nutrients make their way to your healing wound? Improper hydration can delay healing, so be sure to drink plenty of fluids as you recover. Water is usually best, but if you are dehydrated, you may be advised to go with something that also replenishes electrolytes, like a mild sports drink.

3. Avoid Sun

Exposing your new incision to sunlight can make your new scar more visible and even prolong the amount of time it takes to heal. For best results and faster healing times, avoid being in the sun for longer than 30 minutes at a time and always use SPF 30 or higher on new incisions or scars, even when covered by clothing.

4. Eat well

For the first couple of days following your surgery you may want to eat mainly soft, bland foods such as you might eat after having the flu. Certain pain medications may upset your stomach, and these types of foods usually are easier to digest with the medication. However, after the first couple of days you should switch to a more balanced diet. Without proper nutrition your body will not be able to heal as efficiently as it otherwise would. We recommend you eat a healthy mix of protein, as well as plenty of fruits and vegetables.

5. Don’t Rush It

It may seem counterintuitive, but the fastest way to heal is to not try to make it go faster. When you push your body to perform certain tasks before it is ready, you actually slow down the healing process, making it even longer before you’re back to normal. Listen to Dr. Brown and to your body, and give yourself enough time to recover.

Liposuction is a fantastic procedure that can help target and eliminate small, stubborn pockets of fat from different places of your body. While it is not a weight loss solution, it can definitely play an important role in helping to shape your body. In some cases, liposuction is a small part of an overall weight loss strategy that focuses on getting rid of fat that exercise and diet just can’t seem to handle.

Dr. Jae Ho Cho from The Line Clinic Plastic Surgery Hospital often asked by patients, what patients can do to ensure the weight and fat they lose during the liposuction process actually stays off for good. Here are a few ideas and tips on what you can do to help keep the weight off after liposuction.

Remember that everyone is different, which means that some of these will work better for some and not so well for others.

Start With Good Habits
To make sure you are doing your best to keep the weight off after liposuction, start developing good eating and exercise habits before your surgery ever happens. Habits that are established before your surgery will carry over after and make a big difference in keeping the weight off. These habits might include drinking more water or eating smaller portions.

Drink Plenty of Water
There is no way of overstating how important water is to our health. Not only does it help with the recovery process, but it also plays a crucial role in flushing out toxins that can accumulate in our bodies. Water is also known to reduce hunger and help us maintain energy we need to be active.

Watch Your Diet
Anytime weight loss is discussed, there should always be a focus on healthy eating. You can help to keep the weight off after liposuction by eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid refined carbs such as sugar and stick to whole grains. Make sure you are getting a healthy breakfast everyday to get a good strong start and then be sure to eat foods high in fiber, minerals and antioxidants.

Exercise to Boost Your Metabolism
One proven method for keeping weight off is to keep your metabolism going strong. You can do this by making sure you do some sort of exercise for at least 20 to 30 minutes a day. You may find that you are a little sore for the first few days after liposuction, so be sure to follow your doctor’s directions as to when you can start exercising.

Many of these tips are common sense ideas that anyone would use to lose weight. We point them out here as a reminder that, just because you’ve had liposuction, there is no reason to stop doing what you know works. Remember that liposuction is not a replacement for good healthy habits.

Liposuction, also called lipoplasty, liposculpture suction lipectomy, or lipo, is a type of cosmetic surgery which breaks up and "sucks" fat from various possible parts of the body, most commonly the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, upper and backs of the arms, calves, and back. The fat is removed through a hollow instrument - a cannula - which is inserted under the skin. A powerful, high-pressure vacuum is applied to the cannula.

Liposuction is the most common cosmetic operation in America and the United Kingdom. Over 400,000 procedures are carried out in the USA each year. Day by day this is being more popular in Middle Eastern countries like Egypt, UAE.

Liposuction

Patients who undergo liposuction generally have a stable body weight, but would like to remove undesirable deposits of body fat in specific parts of the body. It is not an overall weight-loss method - it is not a treatment for obesity. Liposuction does not remove cellulite, dimples or stretch marks. The aim is esthetic - the patient wishes to change and enhance the contour of his/her body.
Liposuction can be used to remove small areas of fat that are hard to lose through exercise and a healthy diet. It works best in people who are a normal weight and in areas where the skin is tight.
Areas commonly treated with liposuction include:
  • ·         Tummy
  • ·         Hips
  • ·         Buttocks
  • ·         Thighs
  • ·         Upper arm
  • ·         Neck
  • ·         Inner knees
  • ·         Ankles

Liposuction isn't an alternative to losing weight, and it's not a treatment for obesity. It's also not an effective method for removing cellulite or stretch marks.

Many people find they can lose weight, tone up and reduce fatty areas with a combination of healthy eating and exercise. Liposuction is only recommended if you have tried changing your lifestyle but it hasn't helped.

Before choosing to have liposuction, discuss other options with your GP. Think carefully about why you think liposuction may benefit you.
